Did you know… that a comprehensive part dinner service in the ‘Cirque Chinois‘ pattern by Le Tallec originally owned by Ann and Gordon Getty, acquired from Tiffany & Co., New York between 1976 and 1989, sold at online auction (Christie’s) in Oct 2022 for the sum of $163,800

The service was in the ‘Cirque Chinois’ pattern, comprising: 75 dinner plates, 10 teacups and 12 saucers, 18 demitasse cups and saucers and a circular tray.

A beautiful large bowl, hand-decorated in the very traditional Princess Astrid pattern on a stunning cobalt blue ground. This pattern's name comes from Princess Astrid of Sweden, bride of Leopold II, King of Belgium. The original pattern, which included medaillons of birds, was designed by Mr Le Tallec for the wedding service of Leopold and Astrid in 1926. The design (as per this bowl) was used in the early 1970's by the studio artist JN, who is known to have decorated a Vase Directoire in the same pattern (see page 73 of Atelier Le Tallec Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain: For Connoisseurs, Royalty, and Tiffany and Co. (Keith & Thomas Waterbrook-Clyde, 2003).
