Shop Le Tallec Porcelain

Atelier Le Tallec is renowned for its luxurious, entirely hand-painted Limoges porcelain pieces featuring intricate historical and classical designs. Operating in Paris from 1930 until its closure in 2014, the elite studio meticulously preserved traditional 18th- and 19th-century china craftsmanship. It achieved global acclaim through high-profile custom commissions and long-term partnerships with luxury brands, most notably Tiffany & Co., which acquired the atelier in 1991.

General de Gaulle commemorated 20th June 1940, the day he came to London to found the French Resistance, by ordering a hand-painted plate by Le Tallec. The studio created hand-painted porcelain tablewares for Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II of Morocco. President Coty presented his wife with a hand-painted porcelain jewellery case by Le Tallec. Aly Khan ordered a dinner set from the artist for Rita Hayworth. The Portuguese Government commemorated President Salazar’s anniversary by presenting him with a Le Tallec vase, and to crown the story, one of the official gifts for the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was a Le Tallec tea set.

Product Details

A superb Directoire vase decorated in the Cartel de Fleurs Fond Pourpre avec Rinceaux Or pattern

The "Directoire" style refers to a transitional period in French design (roughly 1795–1804) that bridges the elegance of Louis XVI with the grandeur of the Empire style.
  • Background and Palette: The vase features a pristine white porcelain background, which serves as a canvas for vibrant, multi-coloured floral sprays or bouquets.
  • Gold Scrollwork: Rich, raised gold scrolls (often referred to as rinceaux) and floral swags are applied by hand, typically using liquid 24k gold to create a luxurious, textured finish.
  • Directoire Form: Vases in this style often exhibit a classic amphora-like silhouette with a tapered body, sometimes resting on a pedestal or footed base.
  • Handles: It is common for these vases to feature ornate handles, which may be shaped as stylised swans, a hallmark of the Directoire and Empire periods.

Pattern: Cartel de Fleurs Fond Pourpre avec Rinceaux Or (floral sprays on a purple background with gold scrolls)
